| Erica Slomka Owner/Senior Trainer I have been training dogs for 15+ years, 12+ in a professional capacity. I used to concentrate on private, in-home and behavior modification. It seemed I was able to gain a lot of experience with problem dogs, but realized the desperate need to educate people BEFORE their dogs develop unacceptable behaviors. Also, although I can train about any dog I come across, I don't have to live with them. These are the concepts that gave birth to Jumpin JACS Dog Training, where We Train YOU To Train Your Dog. I also do a variety of competitive events with my dogs. My Dalmatian rescue has a Family Obedience title, a Protection 1 Obedience title, a Bronze Star award through SunDog Training Center, and a qualifying score towards his Companion Dog title. He also has just begun competing in agility. He is a working Therapy Dog and has a special gift with children, including special needs. Our Bluetick Coonhound and Rat Terrier are both UKC conformation dogs who pleasure hunt and are preparing for hunt trials. Our coonhound is also being looked at as a trailing dog for Search and Rescue. Our Rattie is also an agility and obedience competitor and has started human scent tracking. Our newest addition is our Black Standard Poodle-and the poor thing will be doing all of the above plus a Junior's dog for our kids! We are hoping to set some new records in the Retriever Trials and are contemplating Protection Dog training. So as you can see I do not just talk the talk-my experience isn't from a classroom (unless I am teaching), it is from actually working my dogs and seeing what is successful. I have done extensive research into other's training methods, and always try out the ones that seem to make sense before suggesting them to any of our clients.
Our MissionJumpin JACS is devoted to the pursuit of healthy and well-trained dogs, whether they are of our breeding or owned by those who wish to learn the tools needed to train their dog. We feel it is important to breed our dogs to uphold the standard not only in conformation but also in temperament and natural instinct. We also believe in using dogs to the best of their natural ability whether in real-life situations or training scenarios specifically designed to complement their innate abilities.
Company ProfileWe Train YOU To Train Your Dog Jumpin JACS was officially established in June of 2006. We are based in Shelby Township, Mi and also do in-home training throughout the metro-Detroit area and boarding/training . Currently in our employ are 1 additional Senior Instructor, a Junior Instructor and a Marketing Design specialist. We hope to add 2 more instructors and day care personnel, as we are looking to expand our facility into a full-service training, boarding and day care area, with full service pet grooming next door at Paws N Suds. Jumpin JACS is unique in that we cater to all disciplines of training (except protection-but have a GREAT reference!). We have competitive obedience experience as well as what an average pet owner needs. Our instructors have competed in Flyball, Weight Pull, Agility, Conformation and Obedience. We also have working Therapy Dogs and hunting dogs-tree, ground and bird. We feel this devotion to exploring all the options to give our dogs a job allows us to show you how fun and gratifying it can be to give YOUR dog a job too. We also understand that not everyone wants to compete or hunt. Our programs are designed for the first-timer as well as experienced dog people, and you choose your goals. If you are looking for a competition dog, we can help. If you just want your dog to stop digging up the yard or eating furniture-well, we can help with that too!

Certifications..... As you search for a trainer, you may notice many listings for "Professional Trainer Associations" and even some stating they are a "Certified Trainer". I have investigated these association memberships, and at this point do not feel they truly represent the competency of any particular trainer. Also keep in mind that there is no actual Michigan state certification for dog training professionals. Although I am sure there would be excellent opportunities for marketing through these associations, I hope my clients find me through references from past clients and choose to use our services because we do what works, in a fair and affordable manner, and offer programs that really will help you build a great relationship with your dog.
